Acetyl-L-carnitine (ALC) is an amino acid associated with increased energy production. It has been shown to increase the flow of free fatty acids, a fuel source for mitochondria, resulting in a significant increase in energy production. With age, the production of free radicals increases oxidative damage to mitochondria, which can potentially reduce energy production. ALC has been shown to increase cellular energy production (ATP) and, in combination with lipoic acid, to reduce oxidative stress. Studies have also shown that ALC supports the immune response by protecting CD4 and CD8 immune cells and supporting the proliferation of lymphocytes to detect and eliminate invasive antigens.
N-Acetylcysteine (NAC) is an antioxidant that captures free radicals and promotes liver detoxification. NAC has been shown to increase the production of glutathione, an important antioxidant in the body. In addition to its antioxidant activity, glutathione strengthens the immune system by activating T cells and helping to maintain immune imbalances.
Alpha lipoic acid (ALA) is a powerful antioxidant, and also plays a synergistic role in replenishing other antioxidants such as vitamin C, Vitamin E, CoQ10, and glutathione. Lipoic acid also plays a key role in detoxification. Studies have shown that the combination of Ala and acetyl-L-carnitine helps to minimize oxidative damage.
